Students Creating Entertainment
for Neighborhood Empowerment.

SCENE combines prevention education with the art of filmmaking. Participating teens explored local alcohol and other drug issues in East Portland and partnered with their peers to create three documentaries. A fourth film, "The Rosewood Initative," was created by prevention advocates and Portland police with key input from youth and community members, and focuses on the area around 162nd Avenue and East Burnside Street with the goal of creating a safer, healthier community.

The four films, which premiered in September 2010, have exciting practical applications, raising public awareness and being used by officers as part of community policing efforts in east Portland. After screenings in several Portland Metro Area high schools, feedback has been positive and everyone has been amazed at the creativity of each student production.
