More than 300-thousand homes in the Portland area watched Crystal Darkness, a half-hour documentary exposing the dangers of meth. Some 25 TV stations throughout Oregon aired the program at 7:30 p.m. and the response was even better than organizers had hoped for. About 55 percent of the viewing audience was tuned into the program.
Oregon Partnership organized the elaborate phone bank center, as part of OP’s crisis lines services. More than 75 volunteers took more than 300 phone calls from viewers who needed help with meth addiction or wanted more information.
Local businessman Jim White spearheaded the Crystal Darkness campaign, which also included brochures and flyers to schools, community groups, and churches.
