Overcoming Challenges for Our Returning Soldiers and Veterans - Treatment, Assistance, and CompassionFor the men and women returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, who are silently suffering from the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, depression, and substance abuse, receiving timely diagnosis and treatment is critical. A panel of experts will provide their professional insights for providers, families, military personnel and caring citizens. Oregon Statewide Crisis Lines Experience Significant Increase in Suicide Related CallsAs a result of the downturn in the economy Oregon's suicide prevention line, LifeLine, operated by Oregon Partnership has seen a 55% increase in calls from people in crisis and contemplating suicide. The number of calls to Oregon's suicide LifeLine reached an all time monthly high of 1,270 suicide related calls in September. That’s 454 more calls than the previous month. Addiction and Mental Health Parity Legislation Is ApprovedThe long-held goal of parity in behavioral healthcare is now a reality: The U.S. House of Representatives voted 263-171 to approve the Wall Street bailout bill, which includes a provision that mandates parity coverage for addiction and mental-health care.
