Poll Shows Oregonians Support Beer Tax

Echoing previous polls, a survey of Oregon voters conducted by Moore Information, Inc. shows that 61 percent favor increasing the beer tax by fifteen cents a glass.

Other findings in the poll show that 80 percent of voters statewide are concerned about substance abuse, and 64 percent expect substance abuse problems to increase as a result of the recession.

2009 Spring A&D Prevention Summit and Drug Free Communities Training

The 2009 Spring A&D Prevention Summit and Drug Free Communities Training will take place on May 5, 6 and 7 in Eugene, Oregon, at the Lane County Public Works. The Drug Free Communities Meeting (open to all) will take place on May 5, and the A&D Prevention Summit (open to all) will take place on May 6 and 7. The registration deadline is April 24.

The training is sponsored by the Oregon Department of Human Services, Addictions and Mental Health Division and Lane County Health and Human Services.

Oregon Drug Treatment Cuts: A Lot to Lose

A front-page story in the Oregonian this week ("Drug treatment cuts: a lot to lose") offered a compelling summary of the damage that would result if the state curtails funding for drug treatment programs. The cuts will be especially hard on those families benefitting from successful treatment.

April is Alcohol Awareness Month

To recognize the serious problem of alcohol abuse, April has been designated as Alcohol Awareness Month and April 10, 2009, as National Alcohol Screening Day. The purpose of Alcohol Awareness Month is to draw attention to the problems related to alcohol abuse and to get people in touch with resources that can help.

Oregon Partnership 2009 Annual Gala and Auction

Oregon Partnership's annual Gala, Dinner and Auction, "Over the Rainbow, Where Hope is Alive," takes place on Saturday, May 2nd at the Oregon Convention Center.

Alcohol on Screen Drives Viewers to Drink

Watching films and ads which prominently feature alcohol drives people to immediately reach for the bottle themselves, researchers said.

An experiment with students showed that volunteers exposed to a film and commercials where alcohol was predominately featured drank an average one-and-a-half bottles of beer more during the hour they were watching.
