Victory in the Long-Running Medical Marijuana Battle

Earlier this month, the Oregon Supreme Court handed employers a comprehensive victory in the long-running medical marijuana battle, deciding that employers need not accommodate an employee's use of medical marijuana (Emerald Steel Fabricators, Inc. v. Bureau of Labor and Industries). The decision now means that employers can be assured that they can consistently enforce their zero tolerance drug policies without regard to an employee's medical marijuana registry status.

Prom Perfect Website, Texting and Prevention Materials Now Available

Prom Perfect, a statewide educational awareness program that focuses on media messaging around the entire prom season, is underway with prevention materials and a website - www.promperfect.org - that encourage kids, parents and the community to help teens make healthy and safe choices on prom night.

Prom season is not just a single event that occurs on prom night; it is a season that creates a teen and community culture around prom celebrations. PromPerfect.org has resources for students, parents, administrators and the business community. The website also hosts a “Text Your Kid” function that allows parents or other community members to send a text message around being safe and drug and alcohol free at prom.

Let Your Voice Be Heard! Don't Miss Two Important Community Town Halls Taking Place in May

How can parents, community members, public officials, and students join together to improve their neighborhood? By attending one of two community Town Halls taking place in May

Youth from the Wilson and Marshall communities will convene and host two town halls. The youth will present their research, collected data, and insight on alcohol and other drug issues. Judges, County Commissioners and other community leaders will present their perspective on county-wide challenges and solutions related to these issues.

Don't Miss the Hallmark Recovery Movie on CBS 4/25

National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence NCADD has been chosen by the Hallmark Hall of Fame as its partner on its latest movie: "When Love Is Not Enough- The Lois Wilson Story," which will air on CBS on Sunday, April 25th 9pm EST/8pm Central. "When Love Is Not Enough" is the story of the love between Lois Wilson, co-founder of Al-Anon, and Bill Wilson, co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Starring Academy-Award nominee Winona Ryder (The Age of Innocence and Little Women) and Barry Pepper (Saving Private Ryan, 61 and The Green Mile), the movie is an inspirational story of hope for the millions of families struggling with alcoholism and addiction by sharing the miracle of recovery.

April is NCADD's 24th Annual Alcohol Awareness Month. Please join us and share in the miracle of recovery and the power of hope, help and healing.

The National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children Names New President

Chuck Noerenberg has been named the new President for the National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children (DEC).

For several years, Noerenberg has been a key player in the National DEC network, lending his valuable time and expertise. Due to his experience and dedication, he was invited to join the Board of Directors. A lawyer by training, Noerenberg became an immediate asset with his keen analytical mind and extensive knowledge of drug endangered children issues. He now brings his experience and knowledge to his role as President of National DEC.

The mission of National DEC is to make a difference in the lives of children who are in danger because their parents or caregivers are manufacturing, dealing, or using drugs.
