Alcoholic Energy Drinks Appealing to Youth

Alcohol producers are finding increasingly dangerous ways to hook the nation’s youth and fuel the underage drinking epidemic. That is the conclusion of a new report, Alcohol, Energy Drinks, and Youth: A Dangerous Mix, released by Marin Institute at the Underage Drinking Enforcement Training Center's annual conference in Orlando. The report examines the alcohol industry’s youth-oriented marketing tactics promoting the consumption of alcoholic energy drinks, such as Bud Extra, Tilt, Sparks, and Rockstar 21.

Community Highlight - Lincoln County Has Great Volunteer Success

Lincoln County residents, including Sergeant Todd Sarazin, Barbara Dougherty, Shannon Wellsteed, and Deputy Karl Vertner, attended the OJJDP, National Leadership Conference on Underage Drinking Enforcement in Orlando Florida. The Lincoln County attendees presented information at the conference on their effective use of community volunteers to support underage drinking enforcement.

Lincoln County is one of the only communities in the county to successfully implement the use of volunteers in underage drinking enforcement. Local efforts have increased the community’s awareness of the dangers of underage drinking and well as increasing the support to law enforcement in their work to enforce the laws involving Minor in Possession, furnishing and underage sales.
