YouthLine is a free and confidential 24-hour teen-to-teen crisis, counseling, and referral line for youth.

YouthLine began in 1999, when, in response to the alarming statistics on youth alcohol and drug use and related teen issues, a group of Portland youth decided to fight back by creating a teen crisis hotline at Oregon Partnership.  They researched other teen lines across the country, designed a plan for ‘YouthLine,’ and began answering calls in January 2000.

Since its inception, YouthLine has answered over 2,700 calls from struggling teens and their concerned friends and family members across Oregon. Our trained and supervised youth volunteers offer a listening ear and help teens explore solutions to problems they face, ranging from drug and alcohol abuse, depression, eating disorders, relationship and family issues, self-harm, suicide prevention, and other teen issues, many of which have substance abuse as an underlying issue. YouthLine offers referrals to youth-serving resources statewide, such as substance abuse treatment centers, counseling agencies, school-based resources, after school activities, support groups, educational alternatives, etc.

Teen volunteers answer the line Monday through Thursday from 4-9 pm. Caring, non-judgmental adults answer  answer YouthLine during all other hours, making it available 24/7.

If you or someone you know is in need of peer support, please call YouthLine at 1-877-968-8491.
