Crisis Lines - Suicide Prevention

The Crisis Call Center provides free, confidential crisis intervention and referral. Our highly trained staff and volunteers compassionately support callers in need, providing immediate assistance and referring people to helping resources that put them on a path to healing.  We also follow up personally with callers after initial contact and triage, ensuring people are safe and offering additional support.  

The Crisis Lines respond to more than 35,000 calls a year, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The lines have experienced a 71% increase in calls since January 2008.

Support for Military Veterans, Soldiers and their Families.
A growing number of military veterans, soldiers and their families are turning to the Crisis Lines for help.  Too many of our soldiers and veterans, given the nature of injuries in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and the strain of long and repeated deployments, face an array of challenges – among them substance abuse, depression and other mental health issues.  Indeed, the rate of suicide among soldiers and veterans is on the rise, a situation that represents a major public health crisis.

Oregon Partnership’s support for military members and their families, and growing collaboration with the Oregon National Guard, are vital components of our statewide services. In addition to crisis intervention and referral, we have forged an ongoing relationship with the National Guard’s Family Support Program. Oregon Partnership also has offered to the National Guard training in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), the international model for suicide intervention.  And we have provided training to the community to raise awareness about the challenges military members and their families face.

In turn, our staff and volunteers are learning the latest from the military in order to best serve veterans, soldiers and their families, including topics ranging from employment, health care, family issues, post traumatic stress disorder and returning from deployments.

Oregon Partnership will soon establish a dedicated line for returning soldiers, veterans and their families.

Crisis Line referrals are tailored to callers based on the services they need, where they live and their resources.  By providing compassionate, problem-solving assistance to each caller, we maximize the potential of success for someone who wants to get help. One call can make the difference.

Suicide Intervention
Two numbers, one important service.  Oregon Partnership crisis workers answer calls to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, 800-273-TALK, and the Hopeline Network at 800-SUICIDE. Each month Oregon Partnership responds to hundreds of callers who are considering suicide or are suicidal at the time of their call..

YouthLine
A peer-to-peer crisis line for teens.  Youth working under the supervision of an adult answer calls on diverse topics including substance abuse, depression, self-harm, dating violence and other issues, many of which have substance abuse as an underlying issue..

Linea de Ayuda
Linea de Ayuda is the only crisis line for speakers of Spanish who are experiencing drug and alcohol problems.  The line is staffed by highly skilled volunteer crisis and suicide prevention workers..
